who’s getting married in the morning?

by Rebecca Reekie

As a make-up artist, I am always asked how to achieve a flawless complexion on your wedding day, and my answer is always that you have to break the rules a little! This particularly applies to your moisturiser and foundation. As women, we are constantly told that we need moisturisers and foundations with a broad spectrum SPF; protecting our skin against sun damage and ageing. However, on your special day, you will want to steer clear of any products with an SPF. Why you ask? Because the SPF in these products will cause something called ‘flashback’, which will be visible in your wedding photos; light from the camera flash will bounce off your skin and into the camera lens, making you looked washed out and ashy, far from the blushing bride!

To avoid looking like these unfortunate celebs, I’d recommend visiting lots of different beauty counters to find a moisturiser and foundation that’s right for you. Personally I love Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Face Cream and also Lancome’s Hydrazen Extreme Gel-Cream. I use these on brides all the time because they absorb quickly and provide long-lasting hydration. However, if you don’t fancy getting a new moisturiser you can use your night cream on the big day, as night creams do not contain an SPF and generally absorb quickly.
